Porcelain Veneers

Many patients who are interested in cosmetic treatments tell us they don’t know where to begin. A lifetime to daily wear and tear, staining, and minor chips and cracks have accumulated to a state that many believe is only reparable with extensive restorative or orthodontic care. Porcelain veneers offer patients an alternative option that is quickly and comfortably completed over the course of two visits to our Nashville dental practice with minimal impact on dental structure or stability. A veneer is a thin sheath of dental-grade porcelain that fits over the front facing surfaces of patients’ smiles concealing a number of smile flaws at one time. The process is simple. During the first appointment, a small amount of surface enamel is removed to allow the veneer to blend seamlessly into the smile line. Then, impressions are taken that will be used by our dental lab to craft the custom veneer. To protect patients’ teeth and allow them to get used to the look and feel of their veneer, a temporary veneer is affixed. Once the final solution arrives at our office, patients return to exchange their temporary for a permanent porcelain veneer.

Metal-Free Restorations

Metal-free, ceramic crowns, bridges, and other restorations blur the line between cosmetic and restorative care. These restorations offer strong, long-lasting repair for damaged teeth, but they blend seamlessly into patients’ smiles. While gold crowns may be adequate for back teeth, few patients prefer this more noticeable material for their front facing teeth. In most cases, we recommend metal-free restorations because they are the cosmetically superior option, and they are more biocompatible significantly lowering the risk that patients will have an adverse reaction to the material, which may occur when certain metals are introduced. Porcelain bonded to metal restorations offer the second most cosmetic solution, but over time, the porcelain wears away revealing the darker colored material below. Metal-free fillings are the same color throughout, so as they wear, the restoration continues to blend seamlessly into patients’ smiles.

Direct Bonding

Patients who have a number of minor cosmetic flaws who are interested in a minimally invasive, cost effective same day treatment may want to consider direct bonding. Sometimes referred to as cosmetic bonding, this treatment uses a versatile composite resin filling material to conceal and correct purely cosmetic flaws in a single visit. Direct bonding is an ideal solution for patients with minor chips, cracks, gaps, and staining that does not respond to whitening. This quick, comfortable solution does not usually require that any tooth enamel be removed, and in most cases, patients don’t even need local anesthesia. We simply apply the composite resin to the tooth, shape it into place, and use a curing light to harden the resin completing the procedure. Depending on the number of teeth to be treated, the entire process is often completed in less than an hour.

Teeth Whitening

Over the counter whitening toothpastes, mouthwashes, strips, and gels promise dramatic smile transformations, but for the most part, these products are simply unable to deliver on their promises. Store bought whiteners are required to use extremely low dosages of whitening agents in order to ensure they will not damage patients’ teeth or gum tissue. In most cases, these low doses of whitener are almost immediately neutralized by patients’ saliva. Professional grade whitening is uniquely planned to meet an individual patients’ whitening goals with customized dosages and application times. We custom craft take-home whitening solutions that include application trays crafted to fit patients’ smiles that keep the whitening agent on the surface of teeth and saliva off allowing the whiteners to remain active for extended periods of time.
